Course Description:

In this course, participants will share their strategies, tools, and resources to develop and assess the EFL competence of students in Primary, Secondary and EOI contexts. Course Structure:

In the course there are four modules, where we will work collaboratively, and two final individual tasks.

  • MODULES
    • In the modules, we will focus first on sharing activities and strategies to deal with the skills that are needed in EFL learning. These will include:
      • The traditional 4 skills (Listening, reading, speaking and writing)
      • Integrated skill practice (Complex tasks)
      • Learning to learn strategies
      • Multicultural awareness
    • Our main discussion will be centered on how assessment can enhance learning.
    • The final individual tasks will serve as an individual reflexion for participants to go beyond their current practices.

FINAL INDIVIDUAL TASKS

    • In the end, we will share our assessment programmes and our own reflection about what participants would change in their learning practices in the light of what has been discussed.

Participants will add their contributions on the wiki, and make suggestions to each other.

We will also discuss how assessment can help students improve their capacity to learn through reflexion. Last but not least, enhancing multicultural awareness will be addressed.

In the end, participants will reorganize all the contributions collaboratively, according to a suggested assessment framework. They will also make an individual reflection on how their practices can be improved, according to what they have learned during the course.

Accreditation:

For accreditation, one contributions to each of the 7 Forums is asked. There is one forum per module except for Module 1, where there are four. Six contributions and six comments to classmates will be considered enough as participants must complete 80% of the proposed activities to pass the course. More will of course be welcomed

Participations must be detailed. It is important that participants share, in the forums:
  • What they do
  • Examples of student's performance, if possible
  • Useful procedures, resources and ICT tools.
  • Assessment strategies
  • Any tips that they consider relevant
The two final tasks are compulsory and must be based on the participant's school practice, whenever possible.
