We work in the Red Bus, the English classroom where we work in groups. Each group works on a different corner. In the "Music Corner" students listen to an adapted fairy tale or story they already know (Goldilocks, Snow White, The three little pigs...)
After listen the story once or twice we give them the transcript. They have to change some words or sentences (depending on the level) from the original story in order to retell the story in a new way.
Finally they record themselves retelling the story using a free audio editor and recorder called Audacity.
So the results are stories in which for example the three little pigs fall in love with the wolf, Snow White lives with 7 giants or the Little Red Riding Hood visits her aunt instead of her granny...
This idea became from an Editorial Contest. There are many different options. For the contest the students also drew the pictures of the story and created a book with an included CD.
Students from secondary school can dub a scene from a film.
Objectives:
To listen a fairy tale or a story read by a native speaker (pronuntation, intonation...) To be able to understand a fairy tale or a story. To be able to see the connection from a story told in two different languages (remember they normally already know the tale in their mother tongue). To change some words or part of the story with new vocabulary (so learning new vocabulary or using vocabulary they know).
Assessment:
As I told you we work this activity in small groups, teachers are focus only in the listening part so the result (the new story) is not so important at all. On the teachers grid we must record if children pay attention when listening the story, and if they show understanding when they do the new story.

Dear Gloria, this is Nuria
It students rewrite the story and record it using Audacity, this is much more than a listening activity, and it requires control measures (assessment) so that we can be sure objectives are reached.I love the idea of the Red Bus! It looks like a very motivating project
