Hi

A very interesting activity. My concern is about classroom management, are students knowledgeable enough with technology? Is this software difficult to handle? How do you set up the activity? Do you spend some time getting students go / run through the steps they have to follow in order to record themselves, create the voki? Do you have a Moodle site where students upload their recordings?

Hi LLuis Miquel, The answer is yes, not problem with technology and students!!!! First I taught students how to use the program with an example to the whole class, so they could do it themselves:). The software is really very easy to use. They , first, wrote their presentations in a piece of paper and after it, they went to the computers room to record it (in groups of two) and they did it without my help. They recorded their voices and then cutting and adding, recording again,..., they prepared their final introduction. When they decided it was ok, they sent it to me via email and also they created their own avatar. After this proccess, they uploaded the link of the avatar to the wiki we were using for it. We didn't use moodle, as we were cooperating with foreign schools and it's easier with a wiki. Really, it's easier than it seems :)

Hi,
I'm Glòria
I have a look to your Pronunciation errors template and I was wondering how your students do the transcriptions of the words.

Gloria,
This is Nuria. My students simply copy and paste it from Wordreference or Collins online dictionaries. Little by little, they learn to understand the phonetic alphabet. Some just try to write the word the way it is pronounced. I think this is a very good cognitive exercise, so I let them do it that way, too.

Thank you!

Hi Cristina!!
I also love to use the voki avatars...and my students too! They find it very easy to use and they enjoy creating their own avatar. What I normally do is to make them upload their presentation in our moodle at the beginning of the course, where they have to record what they write in their profiles.
However, I had never thought to use them as an assessing tool. I think I'll try next course.

Glad it helps you :). It's a very motivating tool.
